Resource: College Writing Centers

Nearly every major university hosts an interdepartmental "Writing Center" that helps students construct strong and effective essays and writing assignments.

Back not so long ago, I helped organize such centers for undergrads, athletes, frat / Greek life, etc ... at Michigan and Florida.

These centers understand that the essay form -- usually a 10 to 15 page, independently researched and composed, academically sophisticated example of reasoned argument -- is the true indication of successful performance in higher education.

In other words ... despite twitter blah blah blah ... get used to writing in this form.

These centers also usually offer a number of great resources online for anyone to use.

Here's one from the UNC Writing Center about thesis construction:

Over the course of the semester, we will also look at offerings from Purdue, U of M, UC-Berkeley and others.
