![]() Course Description: Addiction and dependency will be examined from psychological, biological, social and clinical perspectives. Students will acquire an understanding of the mechanisms by which various chemical substances evoke changes in behavioral, affective and cognitive functions. We will discuss the mechanisms by which drugs act in the brain to promote compulsive abuse, and evaluate contemporary treatment strategies. Students will also gain an understanding of the complex factors that are involved in the development of drug policy.
