Multiple Choice Quiz Unit 9

I do not understand how to do problems like this....Can you please help me?

Who cuts more classes -- males or females? To answer this question, Professor Smith recorded absences for a sample of 10 males and 12 females. For males, the average number of absences is 3.8 (s = 1.1). For females, the average number of absences is 3.3 (s=1.3). For these data the calculated value of t equals:

  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
This is a t test for Independent Samples. Use the CALCULATOR labeled T Test - Sum Stats and enter the mean, standard deviation and sample size for each group. Click CALCULATE. You should see the calculated value of t.

Assigment 5 question 2-1

The _____ can be defined as the change in the dependent variable (Y) for a unit increase in the independent variable (X).
Posted by      Crystal H. at 7:22 PM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
This definition defines the slope of the regression line.

Assigment 5 question 1-2

A strong correlation between X and Y indicates that X causes Y or Y causes X. Please advise. Thanks
Posted by      Crystal H. at 5:37 PM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
False. No causal conclusions can be drawn from correlation.

Assignment # 4 2-5

The number of Within Degrees of Freedom using samples of sizes 20 and 25 is _____. Please advise
Posted by      Crystal H. at 11:40 AM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
Within DF would equal N - K or total number of observations - the number of groups:

45 - 2 = 43

Assignment 5 Q 2-3 and 2-5

hey Dr. Guy or anyone, I can not find these answers. 2-3 is "in regression analysis, predicted y is always the ______ for the normal distribution of Y's when X is held constant at a specific value." 2-5 is "when r=+1 or -1, the use of linear regression leads to an error variance of ______."
Posted by      KAI S. at 9:11 PM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
Predicted Y is always the MEAN Y for the normal distribution of Y's.....

The use of linear regression leads to an error variance of 0.

Assigment 4....1-2

While z is a dynamic probability distribution, t is a static probability distribution. I need help where to find this answer. Thanks
Posted by      Crystal H. at 7:27 AM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
This information is found in unit 9.

The statement is false as z is a static or fixed distribution and t is a dynamic distribution.

assignment 4 Q2-2

i cant seem to find the answer for Q2-2 if you could please help.
Posted by      isra a. at 6:11 PM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
Generally speaking, we only have knowledge of SAMPLES drawn from populations.

Assignment 4 #1-6 and 1-10

Does anyone know where to find the answers to these questions?
Posted by      Amanda R. at 1:11 PM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
In general, if a finding is significant with a certain number of degrees of freedom in the denominator, then it is also significant if that number is increased and the number of degrees of freedom in the numerator remains constant. TRUE because the critical values of F are decreasing (i.e. approaching 1.00) as denominator degrees of freedom increase.

Analysis of variance may be used in place of a t test for difference between means.

This statement is TRUE.

Assignment 2 7- 1

So Dr. Guy
If you said 134 or is it .134, this is what has confused me in placing the info into the curse in expecting the right answer. what exactly did i do wrong. i am perplexed, this is why i have taken so long to complete this assignment because i do want to get it right, anyone can answer me, Please.....
Posted by      noristein k. at 9:26 PM CDT
  Dr. Rebecca Guy  says:
First, convert 134 to z form:

z = (134 - 125)/10 or 9/10 = .9

z = .9

Now read the area ABOVE z = .9 using the STANDARD NORMAL CURVE calculator. That is, using the calculator, enter .9 as one z score and +5 as the second z score and click READ AREA.

Now multiply this area by 100 to convert it to a percent.
