This Class...

is not living up to the expectations I had hoped for when registering. I expected this class to be an avenue to discuss, question and engage one another about the very rich topic of race, ethnicity and class. It can be tricky to navigate. However, in a "safe" environment it's one that can be a catalyst for an extremely rewarding learning opportunity.

I get the sense that Dr. Warren is only interested in sharing her views (perspective) on this topic but not actively engaging/challenging us to consider it from different lenses. That disappoints me. It's very interesting that Dr. Warren openly dismisses differing viewpoints or challenges to her statements.

I understand that Dr. Warren wants this class to see that its class not "race" that divides us. However, dismissing it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or isn't relevant. I agree with a number of her statements and there some that I don't. It would be nice to have an opportunity to engage in conversation about it. Regardless of whether or not I agree or disagree. That's what higher education affords us, right?

At the end of the day, its important that we understand that what Dr. Warren presents to us in class each week is her perspective of the topic. It is NOT the end all be all of the race, class or ethnicity.

....and if I have to hear her mention how much closer she is to her "African-American" friends than she is to her own sisters... I may scream!
Class Last Night

I know we got off point several times last night, but it was so interesting listening to everyone's views. I think it is really starting to click with everyone. I just wish that so many more people here in Memphis could take Ms. Warren's class before she retires. She has so much to offer and I think she could really pull the communities of Memphis together if given half a chance. I can't wait to see what next week will bring! :) Terri
Amazing Information

Last night class was really amazing. I really enjoyed it because I never had an interesting class as the one we have right now. I gain so much information, that I never knew before thanks to Dr. Warren. Also I enjoyed the comments of my classmates. Our class is like little world that we traying to develop with our own hands, so it is really amazing to see how people unite and understand each other in this class
Race

Hearing all the information that we received tonight was soooo enlightening! Not only do I enjoy Mrs. Warren, but I enjoy all the comments from my classmates. This is such an interesting group that no matter how exhausted I feel, I would never trade the classroom experience for an on-line class. I do want to get thru the study guide so we may have to make a class effort to stay focused.
I must say class tonight was an real eye-opener. I really am starting to see the views of the world in a very different light. I was blown away by how she was able to discuss how the world is seen as "class" and not race at this day and age. Class was very interesting. Now I still have a few comcerns about the test, such as what should we actually study but I will just go over notes and read the book. I have to make sure I'm as prepared as I can be for the test.
My sis-n-law

Good evening to all my classmates,

I just wanted to inform all that my sister-n-law passed this morning @ 3:30 am. She will no longer continue to suffer and be in pain because of this terrible cancer illness. I am so glad the Lord called her home because it was so sad watching her suffer.

Thanks,

Rachel McDonald
Exam

I was wondering that we should read the chapters for the exam, becuase she told us it will be on the exam. What about the notes she gave us in the class time do you think that we have to study both of the materials to prepare for the exam?
Last class meeting

I am so sorry that I had to miss class. My sister-n-law have been dealing with breast cancer since January of last year. She took a turn for the worst and was moved to Baptist Trinity Home Care & Hospice in Collierville. We can only take it one day at a time and try to prepare for what is yet to come. Can somebody please let me know what I missed and send me the notes. I also need to know what I need to do for my group project. I will do my best not to miss any more classes. Thanks a lot.
Rachel
We talked a little about the exam and we got in our groups for the project. I'm excited about the group project in looking for information pertaining to my question.
