Required Text: Knox, David & Schacht, Carolyn. Choices in Relationships - An Introduction to Marriage and the Family (10th Edition - 2009).
Class Time: 10:50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
Class Location: Clement Hall 233
Dates: June 6 to July 8, 2011

Objective:
This course will provide an introduction to significant research findings about relationships that lead to marriage and the establishment of a family. Included will be information about social policy, opportunities for self-assessment, and research data comparing relationship trends in the U.S. and around the world.

Reading Assignments/Quizzes/Exams:
There will be 3 weekly quizzes over assigned reading from the textbook.

Extra Points:
Opportunities to earn extra points which will be added to the chapter quizzes will be announced in class. You must be present to earn these points and/or turn in the extra points assignment at the scheduled test time. There will be no provision for extra points for any make up quiz or assignment.

Requests tor make-up quizzes that are missed for any reason must be in writing and MUST be accompanied by a written excuse for the absence.

There will be a Final Exam. These exams will include class presentations as well as reading assignments from the textbook.

Group Project:
Class members will participate in a group project that is worth 25% of your grade. Project groups and assignments will be made during the first week of class. Certain written parts of the project must be turned in on the scheduled date.

How Your Grade Will Be Calculated:

Grading Scale:

90% - 100% = A
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79% = C
60% - 69% = D
Less than 60% = F

Attendance records will be kept in accordance with University policy.
