Forensic DNA collection & Analysis Week one: This week there will be two modules. As for the remaining weeks there will only be one module. Modules for each week will be located under the course units tab. Goals & Objectives This week we will not go deep into Forensic DNA rather we will learn how forensic science works overall and the overall processing of a crime scene. This week we will learn what DNA is and its role in forensic science and crime scene investigation. Next week will really focus on Forensic DNA. Students will: 1) Introduce yourself to your classmates through the discussion board under the my classmates tab. 2) Attend online lecture/chat every Wednesday 3:00-5:00pm PST. Click on the chat button on the right hand side of the home page. You must download JAVA for your chat to work. 3) Complete assignments below. 4) Complete quiz one. 5) Learn what DNA is. 6) Learn about Serology (identification method used Prior to the discovery of DNA) 7) Learn the basics of processing a crime scene. Module Two 1) Serology was used prior to the discovery of DNA fingerprinting as a method of identification. It is still used today but not as much since the discovery of DNA fingerprinting.
